Photos-Food Edition

#foodporn!

Nah I'm in the process of clearing out some space for my phone, sooo...I'm gonna shift them to this place! In this post, it would be the food edition.

satay and ketupat

dai lok mee

This was during our trip to KL and we stopped by at Kajang for satay cuz my family just love the satay there.

Next up is the pan mee edition!

This is a place where I dined once. It's called Vegan and of course it's pure vegetarian. A lot of fancy healthy food there, even the rice they used brown rice. And this dish of mine is a plate of shrooms, cause I like shrooms! As for the drink, it's some yogurt drink but taste thick and sour. The taste gets better after you get used to it.

This is where me and my friends had dinner during her birthday celebration. Nice food but too bad it's pretty far, unless one of us has a car.

Went to visit my friend in Ipoh, aaand had Chicken Salad at Sushi King for lunch; Spaghetti at Black Canyon Coffee. The spaghetti was OK but the drinks is pretty nice though, coffee, cream, chocolate and banana, it tastes sooo good. Worth the money I'd say.

Next, this is a common place that me and my family have dinner on Saturdays. The claypot is called Asam Pedas but we prefer to call it "Ikan Pari" which means stingray in Malay. Then the other one, obviously, is Wantan Mee but this one here is one of the best I've ever had in Malacca, in my opinion.

Subway!!! I don't know how you might find this interesting but this is the only way for me to mark down one of the best eating moments in my life till date. Self-picked ingredients-olives, cheese, mayonnaise etc., it's the best. Though I had this all by myself at TBS, it shoos away all my loneliness and the long hour journey back home. Besides, Malacca doesn't have a single, pathetic Subway so I had to get it here. (You heard that Subway?!)

Moving on, this one is one of the dishes cooked from the aunty who cooks us dinner. It was something very new and it tastes good too! Ever seen squid with minced pork inside it? Something novel but doesn't taste strange at all!

So this is pretty much what's going on with food in university! Gosh I can't believe I snapped so many of them! Oh right before I forget, I still got those from my first semester ones, a little bit back into time. This is a restaurant called Jing Jing. Basically I don't eat there anywhere because IMO the food sucks. But this is the first time I came and I was brought around by my seniors. I think the ones that tasted good are their oysters and spaghetti. If you're thinking of having chicken/pork chop and rice, I don't think this is the best place. Well, I'm not really a fan of this combination either.

So speaking of spaghetti, I had 3 times home cooking experience, well actually four but one of the bolognese sauce didn't turn out that great. In fact, it made hated that flavour even more.

Me and my family had dinner times in Kampar and one of them was when we wanted to try the so-called delicacy of Kampar called 咖喱面包鸡, which means curry, bread and chicken. As you can see, it's that's pretty much it. Dipping bread into curry chicken.

Last semester, me and friends also went to this place called Vegas. It is well known for their western food and of course this super huge burger. One huge burger for 4 person and we called it a meal for the night.

This is all of it, I think, hahah. Till the next time!

Double Effect Camera 360

Photo time! My phone has been running out of memory so I gotta restore some of the photos up here. Since Facebook and Instagram are “not-so-private”, I’ve decided to share it here.

So recently I updated the Camera 360 app and it now has the new feature called double exposure, it’s where you could combine 2 pictures together. It is supposed to deliver the message of our true selves inside us but in these pictures of mine are me and some other random stuff. Nothing that resembles who I am at all, just did it for fun and for art.

All of these pictures are taken using the FX effects of Camera 360 (to bring out different effects) and only the last one I edited it further using Fotor. And since Camera 360 doesn’t have collages so I used Fotor instead to combine them.

Ylvis

A video that captured 13 million people's attention in less than a week. This might potentially be the 3rd viral video this year following Harlem Shake and Gwiyomi.

A common thing about all these viral videos, not forgetting Gangnam Style, comes down to one sentence. "I didn't know it would be this big." Yes, these videos weren't made on purpose to get them viral. Ryan Higa never would've thought millions of people will be watching his videos. It's probably something like reaching for the stars for them to dream about something like this.

This also proves a fact about viral videos. They do not have to make sense, they can be whimsical like Harlem Shake, doing weird stuff around for a minute or so; or having foxes sounding like gring ding ding ding or hatee hatee hatee ho! The whole point comes down to the point-it's weird and that's why it's cool and fun.

For my generation, in my opinion, it is Lady Gaga who has open doors and pushed boundaries of creativity, proving creativity should not be bounded by stereotypes. From my observation, after Pokerface went on to be a mega hit and made Lady Gaga an icon, artists are pushing boundaries in terms of fashion and telling the world, "it's ok to be like this, this is just me being creative."

That is in terms of fashion, now people like Ylvis are pushing the boundaries for music. They used professional music producers and produce serious dance numbers, like the ones we hear on radio, but with wacky lyrics. Not only The Fox, if you check out their other videos like StonehengeWork It and Someone Like Me, all of them are in this form. Serious music but realistic, funny lyrics that created our laughter, and of course their recipe to success. The best part of it is that people are accepting their quirkiness and find it creative and brilliant! Besides, I find the songs are actually better than songs about being drunk and having sex. To a certain point, it probably made The Lonely Island a little less funny. Thank god they were not Americans!

Such simple combination of elements, without any complicated, sophisticated tunes and beats; these brothers easily beats all genre of music. The genre is clear, the message is clear, the tune is familiar to our ears, the lyrics are especially hilarious yet simple. I say, Ylvis has achieved the divinity of creativity.

Shows, movies, The Intouchables

And another night just passed by like this but I didn't regret it.

I've spent the night by watching 2 movies, one American and one French. The former was a teen flick called Superbad. I watched it because they said the rating was good but turns out it's more like the teenage version one-less-crazy-buddy version of Hangover. Maybe because the trilogy wasn't out yet before this movie. With high ratings comes high expectation, but unfortunately it didn't have much impact on me. Instead it got me to some other things.

So I continued my movie trip from USA to France (lol). The movie was called The Intouchables. It is called Intouchables in French. It is a movie about this French millionaire named Phillippe who is paralyzed from the neck till his toe after an accident. Therefore, while he was searching for a care-taker, as usual, he met this African guy called Triss.

When I finished the movie, I felt kinda...sad. This sadness doesn't make me tears overflowing and wailing like "WHYYYY?!!! WHY CAN'T THEY BE TOGETHER?!" To be honest I WAS expecting this sort of emotion but it failed me. As much as I feel sad in the end, all I get was teary-eyed. Maybe it's just me who particularly enjoys this kind of movies with modern Adele-ish piano sound, sounds deep and artistic, makes me feel deep. LOL! Movies like Pride and Prejudice, Anna Karenina,..(I can only think of Keira Knightley now), movies set in the early 20th centuries, especially those backgrounds set during the World War period like the Pianist (ironic much) or those set in the Victorian Period (Yes I'm talking about The Young Victoria).
Listen to the ending song then you'll get what I mean.

Besides the fact that music had got me tangled into this emotional trap, this movie has some serious hilarious jokes. One of them was when Phillippe was looking at this painting where he was considering in buying it, a splash of red paint, costs 30,000 euros. Triss was like, you are buying a painting where the artist coincidentally had a nose bleed on it for 30.00 euros?! It sounds funny but actually, it's true. Later on it is seen that Triss too got himself trying on abstract artwork for fun, he actually could sell it for 11,000 euros. But what got him into this deal wasn't because of him, but it's the persuasion of Phillippe who lied to his friends that this painting will be exhibited across Europe. Man, he had no idea this was drawn by the black care-taker that he wasn't too fond of.

Through this movie it consolidates 2 thoughts of mine. First of all, simplicity is the most divine level of creativity. I don't mean those simple to the extend that you have no idea what's going on. I meant that something which is direct, obvious, and well executed. Although this movie has been listed as one of my favourite movies, Rotten Tomatoes only gave a 75% ratings for it and Roger Ebert also agrees that it still cannot avoid the cliche, cheesy storyline. It is almost like the French version of Driving Miss Daisy. I might not have watched any movies that are similar to this plot, but I can assure that the message in here is clear. And with the backup of a strong cast, this movie is easily the winner. It was the second-highest grossing films in France and Omar Sy as Triss has won a Cesar award for Best Actor in 2012. All I want to say is, the message can be repeatable, but if the flow of the story is smooth and realistic, then it easily attracts audiences.

Secondly, this is quite unrelated to the movie particularly, ethics in workplace and loyalty to employers is something REALLY important. I've got this thought since god knows when, but I know I've seen it in Suits. A little bit off topic here, in Suits we see that Stephen is like the British Harvey and the right hand man to Darby. However, he ordered the killings with just one call and we all were taught since young that murdering is something not nice to be done. Besides throughout the whole show, Harvey never once did something dirty to achieve his goals. He will somehow find a way to win the case but not by bribing or what not. On the other hand for Harvey, he had evil thoughts of eliminating his own mentor to be managing partner of the firm. But in the end he can't do it because he still has conscience. Conscience that how his mentor saved him from the his previous corrupted mentor and made him into what he is today. Lesson of the story is, I sometimes believe the basic things, basic moral values that we learn in primary school, actually are the most essential things in life at the end of the day. It is these simple rules that makes us a successful person, or keeps us alive! Seriously, without these rules, we probably won't be alive.
